The Department of Basic Education announced Matric results 2020





After the most difficult year for matrics, the results of the Matric Class of 2020 are down by 5% when compared to last year. This huge drop. A number of experts have predicted that covid will have a big impact on the matric results. But students and teachers still hoped that all the extra work they did would deliver the same results as the previous year.

Matric Class of 2020 pass rates per province:

Free State: 85.1%
Gauteng: 83.8%
Northern Cape: 66%
Western Cape: 79%
North West: 76.2%
Limpopo: 68.2%
Mpumalanga: 73.7%
Eastern Cape: 68.1%
KwaZulu-Natal: 77.6%



Different Passes – Matric Results 2020

Bachelor Degree Passes: 36.4%
Diploma Passes: 26%
Higher Certificate Passes: 13.7%
NCS Passes: 0.01%

Students and teachers voiced their disappointment. And some shared their concerns about the bombshell from NSFAS that they plan to defund a number of qualifications, amongst them Teacher and Nursing qualifications.
