Suspension of Academic Activities at the University of Limpopo

University of Limpopo students were marching to remove Sasco President (President of SRC) earlier today 13/03/2019 because he didn’t register this year as he was academically excluded due to not completing his degree. It was revealed that he registered a three year course in 2013 and until today, he hasn’t completed.

The students were heard chanting, saying they can’t be led by someone who is not registered. The name of the leader is withheld for safety reasons.

The University of Limpopo’s Acting Registrar Professor K Masha released a statement earlier today about the Suspension of Academic Activities:

1. The Executive Committee of Senate has noted, with much disappointment, the disruptions of the academic activities this morning of 13 March 2019.

2. In the interest of safety for all students and staff, the committee took a decision to suspend ALL academic activities for today (13 March 2019) only. ALL assessment activities that were to take place today will be rescheduled and the Faculties will communicate new arrangements with regard to those.

3. Members of the University Community will be informed of the problems that led to the disruptions once those are formally made known to us.
