GAUTENG TOP COP VISITS HOME (JOPPIE VILLAGE) TO KICKSTART THE LIMPOPO AND GAUTENG INTER-PROVINCIAL BACK TO SCHOOL PROGRAMME

The Commissioner of Gauteng Province, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, and the Commissioner of Limpopo Province, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, working together with the SA Hope Foundation and the Department of Education.

Today, 9 May 2025, they visited the school where Lt Gen Tommy Mthombeni grew up, Mabavaza Primary at Joppie village, under N’wamitwa Traditional Authority outside Tzaneen, to hand over school uniforms and sanitary towels to support the learners.

The Provincial Commissioners were joined by the MMC for Community Services, Basani Shibambu, the Mopani District Commissioner, Major General Mashaba, Hosi N’wamitwa, the Director of the Mopani East District Education Department, Modika, and various stakeholders including the school board, sponsors, the local district council and the local Community Policing Forum (CPF).

WHO IS LIEUTENANT GENERAL TOMMY MTHOMBENI

Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni is a Gauteng police commissioner who was born and raised in the dusty streets of Joppie village under the traditional authority of N’wamitwa outside Tzaneen.

The South African Police Services (SAPS) National Commissioner of Police, General Fannie Masemola, has appointed Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, a native of Joppie village, as the Commissioner of Police for the Gauteng Province with effect from March 1, 2024.

Lt Gen Tommy Mthombeni brings a wealth of experience to his role, having been a member of the SAPS for 37 years, joining in 1986. He has held several senior positions, including Cluster Commander and District Commissioner of Tshwane, as well as Station Commander of the Jabulani Police Station in Soweto and Station Commander of the Pretoria Central Police Station in Tshwane.
