A 24-YEAR-OLD MAN GIVEN LENGTHY SENTENCES FOR RAPING TWO MINOR VICTIMS IN TZANEEN

A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term by the Tzaneen Regional court for raping minor victims at different locations between January 7, 2018 and September 10, 2019.

The court noted that on 07 January 2018 at about 04:37, a 17-year-old female victim was walking home with a friend at Relela village when they met, Ngoako Tswarelo Kapa who was unknown at the time of the incident and he assaulted the 17-year-friend who ran away.

The rapist then dragged the victim to the nearest bushes and raped her before fleeing the scene on foot.

A rape case was opened at the local police and transferred to the Tzaneen Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) Unit for further investigation.

Sergeant Tintswalo Vukeya was assigned to investigate the matter and managed to apprehend the man on 04 August 2020 while appearing on a separate case at Ritavi Magistrate court after being linked through DNA analysis.

On Tuesday 06 May 2025, he was found guilty and sentenced to an effective 30 years imprisonment for raping a minor girl.

Following a rape incident committed on 07 January 2018, Ngoako managed to evade an arrest until he raped another minor victim at Sethong village at about 20:10 on 10 September 2019.

A 16-year-old girl was walking home when she heard the voice of the accused who was known to her and further threatened her by saying, “Today I want to kill you”.

He immediately forced the victim to the nearest bushes and also raped her.

Afterwards, the girl rushed home and informed her family about the incident.

A manhunt for the known suspect was launched, and Sergeant Inooc Kgatla, who is also attached to the Tzaneen FCS, was tasked to investigate the case.

The rapist was nabbed on 12 March 2020 and later released on bail until he was re-arrested on 04 August 2020 while at court for raping the 17-year-old minor.

On 6 May 2025, the rspist was also handed another 30 years imprisonment by the same court for raping a 16- year-old girl.

The Provincial Commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has praised the joint convictions acquired by the Investigating Officers in ensuring that Kapa is ostracized from the community for his horrific behavior that inflicted agony to the vulnerable citizens of the province.
