The vibrant musician renowned for her energetic performances and Xibelani dance flairs, is set to bid farewell to the music world.
The 32-year-old from Limpopo revealed her plans to release a final album next year, marking the end of an era in her dynamic music journey.
Known for her hit single Chale, Shop Madjozi announced her exciting new venture, creating a documentary on the history of Xibelani, along with planning a cultural festival.
Her latest release, Ndi Rine, serves as a forerunner to her third and ultimate album, anticipated in early 2025.
Sho said she embraces creativity beyond music, envisioning movies based on village life, Tsonga-inspired fashion, and traditional food documentation.
“I’m a cultural innovator and the music project and fame have become so dominant that I can’t do any of the other things I’m interested in.
“I want to direct movies based on my village, create Xitsonga-inspired fashion products, document traditional Xitsonga food, etc. Learn from elders before they’re all gone. And maybe start a family of my own and build my village house,” she said.
She wants to create more opportunities for youngsters from her village to enter the creative industry.
“I want to see if I can help improve the standard of education and literacy there. Maybe create a Xibelani festival in my village which becomes as big as a carnival in the Caribbean,” she said.
In Ndi Rine, Sho collaborates with Venda pop sensation Makhadzi and maskandi artist Gatsheni, blending Xitsonga, Xivenda, and isiZulu cultures.
The playful song praises cultural evolution and celebrates happiness in any relationship status.
Her career began with her debut album, Limpopo Champions League in 2018, followed by What A Life in 2020.
Now, she’s ready to share her vibrant culture with the world through new means, inviting all to dance to the Xibelani beat.
