Disgruntled residents of Ndhambi wa Dzumeri in Giyani mobilized on Friday, 22 November 2024, in search of Bongani Makhubele from Khayi village, who was out on parole from prison.
It has been reported by our sister Publication, Giyani View that Makhubele had relocated to Ndhambi village, where he resided with Tinyiko Mabunda, his alleged girlfriend and daughter of the Dzumeri Traditional house.
Allegations have surfaced that Makhubele raped an elderly woman in Ndhambi village. One of the community members saw Makhubele raping the elderly woman at Molototsi river. Fearful of repercussions, the eyewitness reported the matter to the village headman, not to the police.
Our sister Publication, Giyani View learned that the victim didn’t open the case immediately.
The accused was given a fine, but it was not enforced after community activist Cosatu Rikhotso declined to take part in the proceedings, emphasizing the importance of police involvement after he learned about the incident from the eye witness.
Our sister Publication, Giyani View has learned that Makhubele threatened to shoot and kill Rikhotso and anyone opposing the crime he committed. The victim, who failed to recover from the ordeal, spent three days hospitalized at Khensani hospital.
Community members, who had mobilized on Friday, proceeded to Tinyiko’s residence in search of the suspect, but he was absent. Subsequently, in collaboration with the Police TRT unit and Dzumeri Satellite police officers, Makhubele was apprehended at Mageva village.
He was taken into custody. Makhubele appeared before the Giyani Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing charges of rape and robbery. Tinyiko Mabunda, his alleged girlfriend, was released on warning after being arrested for defeating the ends of justice. The matter has been postponed until 06 December for further investigation.
