A 53-YEAR-OLD HUSBAND AND HIS ACCOMPLICE REMANDED IN POLICE CUSTODY FOR MURDER OF HIS WIFE AND MOTHER- IN-LAW

Three suspects arrested in connection with two counts of murder that took place at Makgoophong village under Magatle policing area, on 04 May 2021 at about 20:00 appeared before Lebowakgomo Magistrates court on Thursday, 15 February 2024, for charges of two couhts of Murder , conspiracy to commit murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, attempted murder and defeating the ends of justice.

William Manku (53) was remanded in custody and charges against his alleged girlfriend Nonhlanhla Ngubo (42) were withdrawn by court.

Meanwhile, David Khoza (40) abandoned his bail application. They will appear again before court on 22 May 2024 for further bail application.

The suspects were nabbed by the members of the Limpopo Murder and Robbery, Provincial Tracking Team, Benoni Flying Squad after a 70 year-old mother and her 45 year-old daughter were shot dead by unknown suspects while fetching water at a local tap. The elderly woman was also in company of her son who was injured during the shooting incident.

After the commission of crime, the police started with the investigations that identified the suspects and subsequent arrests were effected in Mpumalanga and Gauteng province respectively.

A 40 year-old Mozambican National suspect was arrested on Monday 08 January 2024 in Mpumalanga, Lebombo Port of Entry (POE) while attempting to cross over to Mozambique. The suspect was found in possession of a South African passport that has since been handed over to the Department of Home Affairs for further processing.

Afterwards, police proceeded to Gauteng province and arrested a 53 year-old police Captain while at work in Sandringham police station . The operation concluded at Lenasia South, resulting in the apprehension of a 42 year-old woman believed to be his girlfriend at her residence on Tuesday, 09 January 2024.

The firearms confiscated during the arrests will be subjected to a ballistic test.

In addition, a Volkswagen VW Polo motor vehicle which was used to commit the crimes and a phone belonging to a 45 year-old victim were also seized.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased are mother-in-law and wife to a 53 year-old male suspect.

The motive of the incident at this stage is unknown and police investigations are underway.
