The Journey Of Mathilda Chauke

Mathilda Chauke, popularly known as ChauBae to the lovely listeners of Munghana Lonene FM was born and bred at Riverplaats Village under the Makhado Municipality in Limpopo.

In 1996, ChauBae attended Riverplaats Primary school, and then in 2004 she attended Lemana High School. In 2009, Mathilda enrolled for Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies at the University of Limpopo-Turfloop Campus and graduated in 2013.

“I grew up wishing to be in the media industry, radio to be exact. My wish was granted in 2014, when I was given an opportunity by Makhado FM; a community radio station based in Louis Trichardt in Limpopo Province.

“I started off as a Xitsonga News Anchor; from there I was given another task of being a Sports Show presenter. As time went by I hosted a talk show known as The Bridge and I also hosted graveyard timeslot. I was also given a chance to do live reporting and outside broadcasting,” says ChauBae.

While at Makhado FM, Mathilda got an opportunity to be part of the Science Journalism Programs at the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA) Under the Department of Technology. Her role was to be an intern science journalist.

Mathilda currently hosts the Munghana Lonene FM Top 30 on Saturday morning 9 a.m to 12 p.m, Lathela on Sunday morning 9 a.m to 12 p.m and Matshwani on Fridays night.
