Wisani Shirinda Gets 25 Years In Jail For Attempted Murder On His Girlfriend

On Friday the Giyani Regional Court convicted and sentenced a 35-year-old man to 25 years behind bars after he stabbed his girlfriend multiple times.

He was convicted of attempted murder, house robbery, and violation of a protection order. The convicted man, Wisani Shirinda, violated a protection order obtained by his girlfriend after she broke up with him by visiting her residence in Section A on February 14.

The victim had separated from the accused because of his abusive behaviour. The court heard that she wanted nothing to do with him, but he refused to accept that their relationship was over. On the day of the incident, Shirinda arrived at the victim’s home, forced open the door, and entered the house.

Following this, an argument ensued, resulting in Shirinda assaulting the woman and repeatedly stabbing her before fleeing the scene with her money and cellphone. The emergency services were called and the victim was admitted to hospital for treatment.

Later, a case docket was opened with the Giyani Police Station and assigned to Dt Sgt Gugulethu Manganyi, whose investigation resulted in the arrest of the accused within three days of the incident. The detective successfully opposed the accused’s bail application, resulting in him remaining behind bars until he was sentenced.
