Fans Are Angry At The South African Department Of Sports, Arts And Culture Over Mama Joy’s Alleged Hotel Price In Paris

Mama Joy Chauke, a big sports fan in South Africa, is well-liked during the country’s sports events. She’s known as the face of South African sports fans.

Recently, she’s been cheering for the Springboks, who beat France and are now in the semi-finals. Some people are upset because they heard she’s being paid to support the team.

One rugby fan pointed out online that Mama Joy appears to be staying at the Meliá Paris Champs Elysées which costs between R8000 and R10 000 a night.

He said that both Mama Joy and another supporter, Botha Msila, are paid by the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture to attend sporting events all around the world on behalf of South Africa.

The Department of Arts and Culture defended Mama Joy in a long statement after the fan’s comments. However, the fan, Renaldo Gouws, didn’t stop. He posted a picture of Mama Joy inside the hotel and said it’s the Meliá Paris Champs Elysées, which costs at least R10 000 on the weekend.

But it turns out Gouws might have been wrong about which Meliá hotel she’s in. In the comments, rugby fans are arguing about whether she deserves to be there or not. Some people support her and think Gouws is being unfair, while others accuse him of being racist.
