A 35-YEAR-OLD MALE ACCUSED HANDED LIFE TERM IMPRISONMENT FOR RAPING A 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL

The Mankweng Magistrate court has on Wednesday 14 May 2025, sentenced a 35 year-old male, Matome Johannes Seabi to life term imprisonment for rape of a 12 year-old girl.

The court noted that on 01 December 2009, the victim was walking from school at Ments, Badimong village when her elder sister gave her money to take it to the accused who assisted them in fixing electricity at their residence. On her arrival, Matome told the victim to come inside the house because she could not give him money while she was standing outside.

The victim complied and she was ordered her to sit down on the sofa and Matome asked her if she wanted to stay longer but she told him that she wanted to leave. A 35 year-old male refused the victim to leave and forcefully took her to his bedroom and immediately raped her. Afterwards, the minor girl was released and went home and informed her family about the rape ordeal .

A rape case was opened at the local police station and transferred to Polokwane Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS). Sergeant Daphney Mpebe was assigned to investigate the matter and managed to apprehend the accused on 18 December 2009 at his residence in Ments, Badimong village.

Matome was later granted R1500.00 bail on 09 March 2012. Sergeant Mpebe’s hardwork and determination to ensure that justice prevail, fought tooth and nail to secure life term imprisonment for the accused and also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the court outcome in ridding this Province of criminals such as Matome Johannes Seabi from the society.
