The Tzaneen Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offenses (FCS) unit has secured a life term imprisonment and an additional ten years sentence against a 29 year-old male accused in connection with a rape and attempted murder incident committed on 04 November 2017.

The hefty sentence was handed at Ritavi Magistrate court on Wednesday 14 May 2025. It is reported that the female victim aged 29 was walking alone in the evening at Lusaka village when she was approached by five males who suddenly started to assault her with fists.
The four males left the victim with the accused, Polvick Maake who was 22 years old during the commission of the crime. Polvick hacked the victim on the upper body with a sharp object and suddenly raped her.

Afterwards, the accused left a 29 year-old victim lying unconscious until she was discovered by a passer-by who managed to get assistance and she was transported to the local hospital for medical assistance.
Police opened a rape and attempted murder case that was immediately transferred to Tzaneen FCS for further investigations. Sergeant Nkakarene Rakgoale was assigned to investigate the matter and through her diligence and sterling detective abilities, Polvick was subsequently apprehended on 28 November 2017.

In addition, she successfully opposed bail until his sentencing as follows:
Count 1 : Rape – Life imprisonment.
Count 2 : Attempted Murder – 10 years imprisonment.
The court also ordered both counts to run concurrently.
