Mr Romantic’s booming kota business in the village of Mavele, New Canada

Mr. Romantic, known to his parents as Wiseman Mathebula, was born in Malamulele but currently resides in the dusty streets of Mavele, New Canada, which is under the traditional authority of N’wamitwa outside Tzaneen.

His family moved from Malamulele to Mavele Village where he grew up until he decided to build his own home in New Canada.

Mr. Romantic became passionate about music at an early age. With the support of his childhood friend Louis Shisinge, they began recording in his bedroom studio after school.

His other dream besides music was to run a successful business, he didn’t want to wake up and go to work for someone. So he started selling grilled chicken feet, then he added kota to his range. Things didn’t go smoothly, there were hiccups and it was difficult to keep the business going with the little capital he had, but he never backed down.

“I still remember buying my first stock. After I prepared it, no one came by to buy, so I had to eat it all on the first day. On the second day, I saw people coming through to support me. From that day on, I never looked back because the business started to flourish.” Says Mr. Romantic.

His business started to grow, he got into pig farming, the idea was to offer pork as it is affordable. He currently offers kota, pork, chicken and pap among others on the menu.

Mr. Romantic is currently raising funds through his business to build a Chesa Nyama, which will be large enough to serve the communities in New Canada and local villages.
