LIMPOPO DIRECTOR OF THE FUNERAL UNDERTAKER SENTENCED AFTER FAILING TO PAY CLIENTS CLAIMS AND BENEFITS

A Director of the funeral undertaker, Ms
Netshakhuma Tondani Merylyn (48) pleaded guilty and sentenced on two counts of fraud at the Giyani Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on 09 September 2024.




According to Hawks Spokesperson Lethunya Mmuroa, during September 2022, the accused refused to pay her clients claims for the funeral benefits. She informed them that policy has changed and the company does only burials no longer paying clients.

Hawks spokesperson Lethunya Mmuroa says that it was discovered the director failed to register the company with the underwriter.



Lethunya Mmuroa says that the are as follows:

Count 1, the accused was sentenced to a fine of fifty thousand rands only (R50 000-00) or six (6) years imprisonment.

Count 2, the accused was sentenced to a fine of ten thousand rands only (R10 000-00) or (3) three years imprisonment in terms of section 103 (2) Act 60 of 2000.




The accused is also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
