26-YEAR-OLD MAN SENTENCED TO FIFTEEN YEARS IMPRISONMENT FOR MURDER OF GIRLFRIEND

The Sekgosese Regional Court has sentenced Mojalefa Stoffel Sebashe, (26), to 15 years imprisonment after convicting him for the murder of his 28-year-old girlfriend in Sekgosese during 2019.

The court heard that on the evening of 2 December 2019, the accused strangled his girlfriend at his parental homestead at Senwamokgope, Vaalwater Village and thereafter dumped her body in the nearby bushes.

The court further heard that the victim’s body was discovered by a community member in the morning. Police were then summoned to the scene and upon arrival, they opened a case of murder and started with investigations.

The case was assigned to Detective Sergeant Mzamani Thomas Ndhambi. Sebashe was shortly arrested in connection with the murder but the case against him was provincially withdrawn pending further police investigations.

The investigating officer reinstated the case upon completion of investigations.

The accused made several court appearances until he was ultimately convicted and sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment on Tuesday, 22 November 2023.

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the sentence. She stressed that gender-based violence and femicide have no place in our society.
