A seven year old boy killed by a speeding vehicle at Mandlhakazi Village

Limpopo Transport and Community Safety MEC, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya is saddened by the death of a 7-year-old child who was killed, allegedly by a vehicle that was chased by Traffic officers.

It is reported that three Traffic Officers were manning the D3248 Deerpark road outside Tzaneen for speed check when a Toyota Sedan came speeding, driving at 93 km/h at a 60 km zone.

A female officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped off at a very high speed.

The officers became suspicious and gave chase. On their arrival at Mandlakazi village in the N’wamitwa area, they found that the car had plunged into a homestead and overturned. A 7-year-old child was killed instantly.

A 25-year-old driver was arrested immediately, and a case of culpable homicide is under investigation.

MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya says she is disappointed by the conduct of drivers who continue to speed and disobey the rules of the road.

“I am disturbed by the incident that led to the death of a child who was killed allegedly by a reckless driver who was running away from the officers. I have been warning drivers about their reckless conduct and for speeding unnecessarily. I want to send my sincere condolences to the family and to assure them that justice will be served”
