Only two Provinces will be reopening schools under Level 4 Lockdown in South Africa





It has now been confirmed by the Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga that only two Provinces will be reopening schools under Level 4 Lockdown in South Africa.

It’s back to school to Gauteng and Western Cape, Education MEC’s representing these Provinces came forth bringing light to whether schools are reopening or not.




TimesLIVE has reported that the Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga met up with the Council of Education Ministers on Monday to discuss the way forward regarding the reopening of schools under Level 4 Lockdown in South Africa.

Angie Motshekga met up with Teacher’s Unions and schools governing body to discuss findings of whether schools are ready to reopen.




According to TimesLIVE, two officials who were present on the meeting told the publication that Gauteng and Western Cape are the only two Provinces who were ready to open because they bought hand sanitizers and face masks, all the right necessities were bought before the return of pupils compared to other Provinces.

The Eastern Cape is not sure on whether their schools will be open in June. The other 6 Provinces are yet to come up with a certain time of reopening of schools.




Couple of weeks back the minister announced that school management teams would be back in school on the 11th of May to prepare the phased in return of learners, the first of June was the set date of reopening.

The Department announced on Monday that Motshekga would give the final dates and more details on Thursday regarding the way forward.
