A chaotic scene unfolded in Tzaneen’s central business district this afternoon, leaving one man injured by gunfire and another arrested following a violent altercation.

The incident occurred near Nizam’s, opposite Tzaneen Total Sports, where a knife fight broke out between two individuals. Witnesses report that the situation escalated rapidly, with the men exchanging blows and wielding knives.
Police officers, who were on patrol in the area, intervened to separate the combatants.

However, amidst the chaos, a gunshot rang out. A bystander, who was reportedly walking past the scene, was struck in the leg by the bullet.
“It was terrifying,” recounted a local shopkeeper who witnessed the incident. “One minute there was a fight, and the next, there was a gunshot. Everyone scattered.”

Emergency medical services were immediately called to the scene. The injured bystander, along with one of the men involved in the knife fight, who also sustained injuries, were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Police officers swiftly apprehended the individual believed to have initiated the knife fight and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The source of the gunshot and the identity of the shooter are currently under investigation.
