Alucia Mabunda: Inspiring Faith, Empowering Youth, and Raising Awareness on Infertility

Alucia Mabunda was born in the remote village of Block – 5 Gapatamedi and is deeply rooted in her faith. A devout Christian, Alucia and her husband extend their compassion through prayer and support to individuals facing the challenges of infertility. She currently serves as the Campus Head at IIE Rosebank College in Nelson Mandela Bay and is pursuing a Ph.D. at North-West University. Though her work commitments have led her to establish a home in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, Alucia remains closely connected to her local community, residing in Xihoko, Robeni Village.

With over a decade of experience across education, tourism, banking, and telecommunications, Alucia has a rich and varied professional background that complements her current role. Her commitment to educational advancement and community empowerment is evident in all that she undertakes.

In June 2024, Alucia launched her first book, The Quest for a Child, in Johannesburg. Having struggled to conceive for years into her marriage and faced with multiple diagnoses, she shares a deeply personal journey in her book, addressing the emotional and cultural challenges of infertility—a topic seldom discussed openly.

The book is available on Takealot and Amazon, making it accessible to a wide audience eager to understand and relate to her experiences. Since the launch, Alucia has actively shared her insights across various media platforms, with interviews on prominent radio stations, including SAfm, Umhlobo Wenene, Channel Africa, Radio 2000, Radio Islam, You FM, Lotus FM, and Munghana Lonene.

Her story and insights have also been featured in leading magazines and online publications such as Skyways Airlink, Mother & Child, Biz Community, IOL, African Business Quarterly, Quest, e-Health, the SASSA website, George Herald, and Cape Times. Additionally, she appeared on Newzroom Africa for a television interview, with the recording available on YouTube, reaching a broad audience eager to learn from her experiences.

Beyond her writing and media appearances, Alucia continues to engage with communities through infertility seminars across South Africa. An upcoming seminar is scheduled for 30 November 2024 in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, followed by another planned for the Tzaneen area in Limpopo in March/April 2025.

In addition to her advocacy on infertility, Alucia is fervently dedicated to youth empowerment. She frequently speaks at schools, encouraging young people to leverage education as a means to build a brighter future. She believes that innovative teaching methods are essential for preparing students for the demands of the workforce and is a strong proponent of entrepreneurship as a pathway to economic growth and self-sufficiency.

Alucia Mabunda’s story is one of resilience, faith, and commitment to service. Whether through her writing, her work with students, or her seminars, she continues to inspire and uplift those around her.
