Tragic Accident Claims Four Lives On The R40

A devastating crash on the R40 road between Mbombela and Barberton has claimed the lives of four people, including a child.




The accident involved a truck and an SUV, with all victims reportedly burnt beyond recognition due to the severity of the collision and subsequent fire.

Moeti Mmusi, spokesperson for the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security, and Liaison, confirmed the fatal accident and urged motorists to exercise caution.

“We advise all motorists traveling between Barberton and Mbombela to use the R38 via Kaapmuiden as recovery processes are still underway on the R40,” Mmusi said.

The exact identities of the victims remain unknown at this stage, and forensic teams are working to establish their identities.
