DILIGENT INVESTIGATIONS BY POLICE LED TO TWO LIFE JAIL TERMS AGAINST TWO RAPIST

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the two life jail imprisonment handed down by the Mahwelereng Regional Court on Friday, 12 July 2024, against two accused who were found guilty of raping a woman aged 51 during 2018, respectively in Gilead policing area.




Mahwelereng Regional Court heard that on 05 August 2018 at around 03:00 the two accused, Joseph Malose Mgidi (37) and Julius Mmakgabo Maduwe (27), went to the victim’s residence in RDP 04 Rebone Section in Gilead policing area and knocked on the kitchen door. The victim opened the door for them, and they suddenly attacked her, and then they dragged her to a shack house in her backyard where they made turns in raping her. In the process, the victim bitten a finger of one of the accused. Thereafter, the accused fled the scene.

A case of rape was opened for further investigations.



The docket was transferred to Mokopane Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, and was placed under investigations by Sergeant Matsimbi Tina Ramokone.

Thorough Police investigations the two accused were positively linked to the rape case and subsequently arrested.




The court found them guilty for rape and finally sentenced Joseph Malose Mgidi (37) to life imprisonment for rape and Julius Mmakgabo Maduwe (27) was also sentenced to life imprisonment for rape.

We commend the investigating officer and the arresting team, including all role players who played a crucial role that resulted in securing the court outcome that ensured that justice is served to the victim and her family,” concluded Lieutenant General Hadebe.
