Talifhani Mulaudzi, a young visionary who was born in Ha-Mashamba, Venda and currently lives in Xihoko village outside Tzaneen.
Mulaudzi is a woman of vision who is making a splash in her village and the neighboring villages of N’wamitwa by transforming old jeans into catchy outfits.
The 23-year-old is determined to make a name for herself in the fashion industry and we wouldn’t be surprised to see her on the big stage with her catchy outfits.
Talifhani Mulaudzi, the humble and passionate fashion designer, draws inspiration from fashion industry greats such as David Tlale.
Her love for clothes and creativity was sparked by her father’s tradition of buying new clothes, which she often altered to reflect her own style. “I’ve always loved clothes and enjoyed changing them to suit my taste,” she recalls.
Talifhani’s path took a decisive turn in 2003 when she moved in with her maternal grandparents. Inspired by her sense of style, she enrolled at the Villiot Fashion Institute two years ago. “Two years ago, I didn’t even know how to use a sewing machine,” she admits. “Now I design fashion pieces from home.”
In March 2024, Talifhani posted a video on social media in which she showed how she transformed old jeans into a fashionable skirt. “I had no idea it would get so many views. The video worked wonders for me,” she recalls. The viral video boosted her sales and increased her audience.
As a sole trader, Talifhani makes a living from upcycling and transforms worn jeans into trendy, individual pieces. Her innovative approach promotes sustainability and demonstrates her exceptional talent. She plans to open her own clothing store in five years. “The goal is to grow bigger,” she says confidently.
Talifhani advises budding entrepreneurs: “It’s more fulfilling when you do what you love. Yes, we start businesses to make money, but passion gives you a purpose and helps you overcome obstacles”
