Tzaneen police have launched a manhunt for suspects involved in attempted house robbery and attempted murder at Marirone village , in Mopani District on Wednesday, 22 May 2024 at about 00:30.
According to the reports, the victim was at home asleep when he heard a sound of a burglar door breaking. He woke up, got a panga and hid behind the door.
Suddenly, the door was broken and opened. Two unknown African men entered the house, one holding a firearm and demanded money while threatening the victim to come out of hiding.
The victim chopped one of the suspects with a panga, and the suspect fired a shot at the victim, which missed him.
Afterwards, The suspects immediately ran out of the house and fired shots in the direction of the house.
When it was quiet, the victim went to the neighbours to inform them of the incident. They (neighbour and victim) went back to the house, they noticed that the burglar was damaged and the door was broken.
The police were notified about the incident, attempted house robbery and attempted murder cases were opened.
Four empty cartridges were found at the crime scene.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, 23 May 2024 in Maake policing area, Mopani District, in one of the primary schools in Mhagweni village, three unknown men entered the school premises. Two of them, armed with firearms, fired a warning shot and instructed the security officer to lie down. They then tie him with a cloth. They broke into the principal’s office with a grinder and were unable to open a safe.
The suspects robbed security officer a cellphone and fled the scene on foot. The police have opened a business robbery case.
