Mafamba, Xihoko Village’s Finest Musician

Mafamba, known to his family as Masingita Hlungwani was born and bred in the dusty streets of Xihoko Village outside Tzaneen.

Mafamba was born in the early 90s and he started his music career in 2009 after being influenced by the late Zimbabwean Oliver Mtukudzi.

He kickstarted his music career by approaching the Xitsonga music legend Gezani Thomas Mzamani for assistance in music recording. The studio was located at Cleveland, Johannesburg. He recorded few songs which he used them to do self marketing around his community and it helped because he gained lot of recognition and support. This in turn helped to shape up his music career and took it to another level.

Mafamba went to Team Shirimani where he recorded his first album, working with the legendary award winning artist and producer Dr Joe Shirimani of Hekele-heke fame.

His album drew the attention of Munghana Lonene FM and he was nominated for SABC XITSONGA Music Awards to contest for best male and best collaboration. He then went to SWGC to study for a Diploma in Sound Engineering in 2015.

After completing his Diploma, he went back to the studio ro work on his second album titled “Gandlati” in 2016. The album was well received by the masses, judging from the radio and social media responses. “Gandlati” took his brand to the higher level with few sing-along songs. Dr Joe Shirimani worked his socks off on the project.

To date, Mafamba has 5 albums under his belt, his latest was released in 2023. He is currently preparing to go to Shirimani Music Production to start working on his 2024 album.

Mafamba says his music resonates with the masses, and it is the vehicle that will take him to the summit of his unstoppable national conquest.

People say charity begins at home. If you don’t feel what you are doing, it will most likely fall flat. I have test driven the music on my previous albums, and when I play tracks taken from these albums “Salute” & “Gandlati”, I notice how it pierces and takes over people’s inner souls, and captivates their musical senses. Most of the tracks, whether sad in nature, positive, inspirational, or warm, they are about real-life experiences that people will resonate with, and I wish that they have a positive impact”, he says.
