A 31 YEAR-OLD MALE ARRESTED FOR THE POSSESSION OF UNLICENSED FIREARM

The Police at Tzaneen in Mopani District through Multidisciplinary High Density Operation Vala Umgodi on Friday 16 February 2024 have arrested a 31-year-old male suspect for possession of unlicensed firearm with ammunition.

Acoording to the information received from the police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, It is reported that Teams comprising , Tactical Response Team and members of the Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigative (DPCI) have on Friday 16 February in early hours operationalised information gathered subsequently pounced on a man in possession of unlicensed firearm and eight live ammunition while he was still asleep in his house at Marironi village outside Tzaneen.

Thirty five suspects were arrested on Friday 16 February during the simultaneous conducted Operation Vala Umgodi in separate locations within the entire province including the Beitbridge Port of Entry for various offenses such as contravention of immigration act, possession of illicit cigarettes and smoking dagga in public places.

The Police in Limpopo are hot on the heels of illegal miners and any other criminals.

The provincial commissioner of police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe hailed the collaborative efforts as well as achievements by the operational teams incolved..

The suspects are expected to appear
before various Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 19 February 2024.
