A TRAINEE TRADITIONAL HEALER DROWNED AND LOST HIS LIFE WHILST PERFORMING RITUALS

A Trainee Traditional Healer (25) has reportedly drowned in the Rainbow river at Majembeni Trust near Bushbuckridge whilst performing some rituals, an incident which triggered the Police to warn communities to be wary of such similar incidents (drownings).

The incident is said to have occurred on Sunday morning, 04 February 2024 around 09h00 am.

According to information, three male trainees and the female traditional healer went to the river to perform some rituals.

During the process, one of the trainees disappeared inside the river.  A search was conducted with no luck. The matter was immediately reported to the Police and Police divers were summoned to the scene but sadly the body was retrieved after three hours, at about 12h00.

What is currently known is that there were no visible injuries on the deceased’s body however an inquest is being investigated by the Police.

It is against this backdrop that the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela cautioned members of the public to be extra careful when conducting some activities in the rivers. The General added that due to continuous rainfall experienced in most areas, it should be noted that the rivers as well as dams are swollen, which poses danger to anybody going to the rivers and even dams.
