MATSHWI VILLAGE RESIDENT KILLED IN NKOMO-A VILLAGE DURING AN ATTEMPTED BUSINESS ROBBERY

The police in Giyani have opened a case of attempted business robbery, unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition, and an inquest on Monday, January 22, 2024.

Police Spokesman Sergeant Rikhotso said that they received information about an attempted business robbery at Nkomo 22A village on Monday, at approximately 20:20.

Police quickly went to the scene of a crime and upon arrival, they found a group of community members gathered outside the spaza shop.

Rikhotso said that the owner of the spaza shop sought for help from community members after he alleged that the suspects attempted to rob him.

He informed community members that three suspects entered the shop and one of them bought a cigarette and sweets. While selling sweets and cigarettes to the suspect, one of the three suspects pulled a gun out and demanded money and cigarettes from him [victim].

He then managed to grab one of the suspects and take cover with him. In the process, one of these suspects attempted to shoot at the victim, but unfortunately missed. Instead, he injured his partner in crime and fled the scene.

The victim who was shot by his partner, was found in the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Emergency personnel were summoned to the scene and the deceased was treated before being transported to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased was identified as Ramahlo Mpho Doctor, who resides in Matshwi village under the Bolobedu policing area.

The manhunt for the other two remaining suspects is underway. It is alleged that during the commission of the crime, they were using a Nissan 1400 vehicle without a registration number, cream white in color.
