AN 18 YEAR-OLD GIRL RAPED AT LUSAKA VILLAGE

The South African Police Service in in Ritavi are investigating an alleged rape case of an 18 year-old girl by a known suspect in an incident that took place in October 2023 at Lusaka village, Ritavi policing precinct in Mopani District.

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Hlulani Mashaba, the mother of the victim reported that her daughter was admitted at Letaba hospital last year on 28 December 2023 after she was not feeling well. The victim was later discharged from the hospital on Wednesday, 03 January 2024.

While at home, the daughter informed her mother that she was raped by a 24 year-old known suspect during the month of October 2023.

The victim alleges that she was alone at home when the suspect grabbed and forcefully took her to his house and raped her inside his bedroom on their arrival.

After the ordeal, the suspect threatened to assault her if she reported the rape incident to anyone. The victim did not tell anyone because she was afraid to be assaulted until she revealed the matter to her mother who immediately reported the incident to the police on Thursday, 04 January 2024.

Mashaba says a manhunt of the known suspect is underway and police request anyone who can assist with his apprehension to contact the Investigating Officer Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Mahlane on 0824692625 or crime stop number 0860010111 or nearest police station or MySAPSApp.

Police investigations are continuing.
