LIMPOPO RECORDS FIRST CASE OF MONKEYPOX

The MEC for Health in Limpopo, Dr Phophi Ramathuba has confirmed today, 10 July 2022 that Limpopo Province has recorded first case of monkeypox from a 42-year-old male tourist from Switzerland who is on holiday in the country.

According to Limpopo Health MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba it has been confirmed by the National Institute of Communacable Diseases (NICD) with signs such as rush, lymphadenopathy, muscle ache and fatigue.

Dr Phophi Ramathuba says she calls on the calm amidst the confirmation of the first case of monkeypox.

Ramathuba further says she has already sent officials to follow through the case and three contacts have been already identified and none of them have developed signs.

She added that she wishes to encourage all people who interact with a lot of people in their line of work to continue wearing masks even though the COVID-19 protocols have been relaxed.
