Mzansi Celebrates Trevor Noah’s Grammy Nomination

Trevor Noah is a South African comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, actor, and television host. He is the current host of The Daily Show, an American satirical news program on Comedy Central.

Born in Johannesburg, Noah began his career as a comedian, presenter, and actor in his native South Africa in 2002. He subsequently held several television hosting roles with the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) and was the runner-up in the fourth season of South Africa’s iteration of Strictly Come Dancing in 2008. From 2010 to 2011, Noah acted as the creator and host of the late-night talk show Tonight with Trevor Noah, which aired on M-Net and DSTV.

After his stand-up comedy career attained international success, Noah began appearing on American late-night talk shows and British panel shows. In 2014, Noah became the Senior International Correspondent for The Daily Show, and the following year, he succeeded long-time host Jon Stewart, and is set to remain in this position until 2022.

The South African brewed talent, Trevor Noah is a very happy man right now. His move to the United States of America in the year 2015 has proven to be a lucrative one.

The Grammy’s list is out and our very own Trevor has clinched a nomination on the much-coveted awards show. Trevor’s body of work on ‘Son of Patricia’ on Netflix has earned him a nomination in the Best Comedy Album category. This category is for albums containing at least 51% playing time of new recordings.

Below is the list of all the nominated comedians in the category:

QUALITY TIME: Jim Gaffigan
RELATABLE: Ellen DeGeneres
RIGHT NOW: Aziz Ansari
SON OF PATRICIA: Trevor Noah
STICKS AND STONES: Dave Chappelle

The Grammys will take place in New York City on 25 January 2020 and will be hosted by the oh-so-talented musician, Alicia Keys.

Trevor Noah’s grind has been on overdrive. In August 2019, the 35-year-old secured the number four spot on Forbes Magazine. Much of his coins come from several stand-up comedy gigs, which have accumulated to a massive R430 million!

Despite his global success, Trevor has somehow remained grounded. In an interview with Anele Mdoda on the defunct television talk show, Real Talk, Trevor mentioned that he is not crazy about the celebrity culture, as he is all about the work.

Well, he might hold this view about himself, but on the outside he is regarded as the ultimate star!
