Stuart Baxter confirms final 2019 AFCON squad

Bafana Bafana Head Coach Stuart Baxter has confirmed his 23-man 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals squad.

The head coach, Stuart Baxter on Sunday (09/06/2019) announced the players he will be entrusting to carry South Africa’s hopes when they descend upon the continental 2019 AFCON finals in Egypt later this month.

Bafana Bafana initially had a 28-man provisional squad training in Johannesburg since Monday, but the Confederation of African Football (CAF) rules allow for only 23 players to be registered for the international showpiece starting from the 21st of June.

Two players had already been withdrawn from the 28-man provisional squad – Montpellier winger Keagan Dolly was withdrawn due to injury, and Mamelodi Sundowns defender Rivaldo Coetzee was withdrawn after failing to report for camp after being afforded some time off to attend to his “critically ill” mother.

Bafana Bafana will on depart on Monday for Dubai, where they will host their final preparation camp which includes a friendly encounter against the Black Stars of Ghana on June 15, before moving on to Cairo ahead of their opening 2019 AFCON clash against Ivory Coast on June 24.
