Praise Singer Ntombi Ya Mutsonga Performs At BRICS Summit

Masingita Shibambu, widely known as Ntombi Ya Mutsonga from Matiyani village, is an acclaimed praise poet, author, and language activist whose narratives encapsulate the very essence of South Africa’s cultural and societal soul. Her distinctive artistry has earned her a nomination to showcase her lyrical brilliance at the BRICS Summit 2023.

The BRICS Summit, which took place from 22 to 24 August, garnered international attention as President Cyril Ramaphosa hosted, among other state leaders, President Xi Jinping of the People’s Republic of China at the Union Buildings in Tshwane. This state visit coincided with the celebration of 25 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries, rooted in historical ties dating back to the Bandung Conference of 1955.

Ntombi Ya Mutsonga, who previously showcased her poetic prowess on a national stage in 2020, was excited to perform her verses on a stage graced by global leaders. She expressed her gratitude, saying, “God has been good to me. It’s by his grace that all this is happening. My journey as a praise poet has been a vibrant tapestry woven with cultural exploration, linguistic discovery, and a profound appreciation for the diverse beauty of South Africa.”

Her deep immersion in the rich languages and traditions of South Africa, she added, had been a privilege. This opportunity enabled her to craft a poem that not only celebrates her nation’s diversity but also extends an open invitation for the world to partake in their experiences.

“Personally, it’s an opportunity to showcase the essence of South Africa’s identity to a global audience and to foster connections that transcend borders. It’s about using my art to create a bridge between cultures, fostering mutual understanding and respect,” she said.
